Dates may be low histamine. The wrinkly fruits come from the tropical date palm tree, which is native to Morocco and grows particularly well in the Middle East and on the West Coast of the USA. While dates contain some plant chemicals which fight oxidation and inflammation, they’re also high in sugar, which is inflammatory, and are often sold in dried form. While dates themselves are not inherently high histamine, high levels of processing or ageing can increase histamine levels quite quickly. So take caution in reintroducing dates, but if you can handle the sugar, dates are a great source of dietary fiber, potassium, and copper. They can even be eaten in whole form or as a sweetening syrup or sugar.
