Yes, rice is low histamine. However it’s also often contaminated with arsenic, a toxic heavy metal, and should be chosen carefully or avoided if you’ve ever had any issues with heavy metals. Otherwise it’s a good source of iron and vitamin C, and the black and blue varietals are rich in antioxidants. Because it’s so well tolerated, many people start off their low histamine diet with a lightly-seasoned protein and plain rice. Unfortunately, rice is also high oxalate and high in lectins, both of which are plant toxins that some people are sensitive to.
